Still no word from meteor on this one?

I'm a bit confused. Weren't people sating that Meteor won't offer OTA update because of the sim unlcok issue? I thought that the Hero (on Bill anyway) was unlcoked!?

Would be nice for Meteor to provide some sort of update........

I just tried my billpay Hero with an O2 SIM and it works! Have telephone reception (whick works as I just dialled out to my own landline) but would need to configure the mobile broadband. So yes, my phone appears to be unlocked!

Yeah as far as I know all Hero Bill pay phones are unlocked that's why I can't understand Meteor having an issue with the OTA update?!?

So can we upgrade to the next version of android, or are we stuck with whatever came in the box / having to override restrictions to do it?

Seems a bit pointless getting a really good high-end smart phone if you can't keep up with the latest software.

Hi all,

Sorry for the delay in response here. I had posted on another thread announcing the launch of version 2.0, so when I heard that this may be being skipped to go straight to 2.1, I went to do a little more investigating.

We’ve been in contact with HTC and they have said that version 2.0 will be available in and around March of this year. HTC sense UI will be tightly integrated with Android 2.0, as with other versions of the software. Because of this new versions of the software take a while to develop. As for 2.1 this would also need to be developed and there is no update on this.

Sorry if there was any confusion here and if I hear any more on this I’ll make sure to let you all know.

Hope this helps

That just adds to the confusion, the news I'm general is that HTC are skipping 1.6 and 2.0 and going straight to 2.1 with sense for the hero...

Hi Glynn,

Thanks for the update. Will the update be provided by Meteor or via the HTC website?

Hi,

Just got another update on this and HTC have said they are releasing 2.1 on the Hero and we are hoping to have this availible by the end of March.

This will be available via the HTC website and we are also looking at other ways to make this update easier to access for our customers. As soon as I hear any more on this I'll let you all now becuase I know the release of 2.1 is something that everyone is looking forward to.

====EDIT: There has been some miscommunication here, as the exact release date has not actually been confirmed by HTC. Sorry for any confusion this may have caused.”====

Thanks

Yeh, but apparently it was released by mistake. It was 2.1 but missing the Sense overlay & has bricked some phones. Shows good promise that we'll get it soon though.
